Memorial Day

Reflective Memorial Day. I wanted to share this devotion with you.

Greater love has no one than this, that he lay down his life for his friends. John 15:13

During an assault by Iraqi troops at the Bagdad International Airport in 2003, Sgt. 1st Class Paul Ray Smith grabbed a rifle and antitank weapon and continued fighting until death, holding off 100 enemy soldiers until his comrades could retreat safely. Two years later, President Bush awarded Smith the Medal of Honor. Drawing from this soldier’s example, the Army drew up a new creed for training recruits. "I will always place the mission first. I will never accept defeat. I will never quit. I will never leave a fallen comrade." (Julian Barnes)

Many fine men and women have given their lives so you can live in a free country. Take time this Memorial Day to thank God for the sacrifice of those who, for freedom’s sake and love of their fellow soldiers, paid the ultimate price.

That was a great devotion, Dana. I was thinking about your brother today...the huge sacrifice he's making. I'm very thankful for him and all the soldiers who give up everything so that we can be free.
