sum sum summertime

4 things remind me of summer as a kid:

1. Welch's sparkling white grape juice. The taste reminds me of the grapes that grew on our grapevine in our yard. We didn't have a vineyard. Just enough grapes to make jelly. The grapes that I buy in the store just don't taste the same. Our grapes were sweet and juicy.

2. Rhubarb. In the back of our garden, we had a huge patch of rhubarb. My parents made rhubarb punch, rhubarb pie, rhubarb crisp, rhubarb cake, ... There was a lady who would come and pick rhubarb from our garden and, to thank us, would leave a paper bag of goodies on our porch. I looked forward to that bag...

3. Green onions. They were a staple on our dinner table during the summer. When we would set the table, we needed plates, forks, knives, napkins, cups, our glass of green onions, and morton's salt. I never ate the onions. Not much of an onion eater, but they do bring back cool memories.

4. Mr. Freeze pops. My mom bought a huge box at the beginning of summer, so we'd have a couple each day. So good. So cool. Except the red ones, they made me cough.

2. rhubarb...never had it in my garden growing up, but always got some every year from a family friend and my mom made strawberry-rhubarb pie. yum!!

3. green onions were a staple on my dinner table too!! straight from our backyard garden!

4. my mom never got into freeze pops, but my neighbor always offered them to us!

how fun is that to have similar childhood memories!
