Today, my thoughts are somewhere else. They're with a young guy who has just lost his wife and 2 kids in a car accident Thursday.
I first heard about the tragedy on the news. "A woman with a history of DUI's kills a woman and her two young children in a car accident in Grundy County."
When I heard where it was, I thought there was a chance I might know someone who was affected by it. I don't actually know him, but Jason knew of the husband and father of the victims. It makes it hit closer when you can put a face with the person experiencing the tragedy.
I cannot imagine the pain this guy is going through right now. Everything is gone. Gone.
He is no longer defined by the 2 most important roles he has filled for several years. Husband. Father.
His house is empty. His life is changed. Forever.
I've seen movies where something like this happens. But they aren't real. They are written into the script. No real pain. No real brokenness.
And everything is fixed in under 2 hours.
In life, it takes years to mend after a loss that bad. And, you are never fully restored. Yes, God can heal you, but you are never the same. You still carry the scar. the memories. the sadness.
You never know what life may bring. Tomorrow is never a guarantee. So, enjoy each day you have and don't sweat the small stuff. And know that, when you hear of a tragedy on the news, someone's heart has been broken and their life has been turned upside down.
