I did it, I did it, I did it!!! I still can't believe I actually did, but I did!
Today, I bought 4 pumpkins at Aldi for $1.99 each, and brought them home for the kids and I to carve.
So, just WHY am I so excited?!?
Because I actually LIVED today, that's why.
Because the kids and I added an experience to our lives.
Because I usually sit around and feel sorry for myself when Jason is gone all day (and night!) for football.
Because I spent $8 on something that will be thrown away in about a month.
Because I wasn't afraid to make a little mess and have some fun.
To be honest, I sort of figured that I would be finishing up the projects once the kids got bored. Let me tell ya, they stayed on task until their pumpkins were all carved and glowing inside.
Ky was a little grumpy at first, but soon turned her frown upside down and had some fun.
I was most surprised by Jax. He kept carving, . . . and carving, . . . and carving, . . . until his pumpkin was held together by the stringy stuff on the inside. Boy + knife = hours of interest, I guess. Yep, I let then use real knives, call me crazy, right? They did a great job, and no one got cut.
The best part of it all: No one fought the entire time we worked on our pumpkins!! Score!

I can't remember how old I was when my parents let me carve my first jack-o-lantern. Even if they helped me, it was always fun. My dad was really creative. The best part was that they'd let me put a plate under the pumpkin and take it to my room on top of a dresser. We'd light a candle inside when I went to bed and it was my night-light for the whole Halloween season... Mmmmm...I can already smell that warm-pumpkin smell... and I remember the dancing shadows on the wall as I drifted off to sleep. What great memories you created with your kiddos today!! Very inspiring.
