So, I did something I have never done before. The other night, I attended a wrestling meet.
Crazy, I know.
No, really, wrestling is crazy. I guess because it's so different than anything I'm used to. Well, I'm sort of used to it, because that's what my husband and kids do on the living room floor for entertainment, but not for points.
Everything about wrestling is different. The refs (who were practicing or demonstrating a wrestling move before the meet - they were literally on the mats in a wrestling move or hold or something. I seriously couldn't believe it!)
The positions are extremely, well, I'll just say awkward. There were times I felt weird watching some of the moves. I would look away from them thinking I was seeing something I really wasn't supposed to be seeing. They made me uncomfortable - I can't imagine how the wrestlers felt, especially when their faces were being smooshed into the mat or they were being held in the ball and chain. (Jason, I thought you were just making that move up!)
Ok, let's not forget the uniforms. But, that's all I'll say about them.
The kids were with us at the meet, and their reactions were quite different. Ky thought it was a weird sport and couldn't understand it. Jax was motivated by it and wants to include it in his athletic repertoire in high school - alternating that with basketball as his winter sports. And, Kenn, . . . well, let's just say that West just might have a girl wrestling for them in about 6 years. Forget football, she wants to wrestle. I have a few years to come up with a better alternative. I just hope that's enough time!
