Jason and I are reading a new book, Wild Goose Chase, by Mark Batterson. Great read. Especially if you're at a point in life where you really thought you were doing what God wanted you to do, but things aren't working out as smoothly as you thought they would. I mean, really, doesn't everything work out perfectly if you're in the center of God's will? HA!! Not really. Sometimes things do work together so well, there's no mistake that God is in it. Other times, they don't work together. Or at least they don't seem to be working together. Anyway, here's an excerpt from that book:
Most of us want God to provide miraculous signs before we come out of the cage. We want God to part the river before we get our feet wet. Why? So our faith doesn't require any faith! Don't get me wrong. Sometimes God will provide a miraculous sign that will give you just enough faith to take the first step in the pursuit of your passion. But more often then not, faith doesn't follow signs. Signs follow faith. It is the biblical pattern.
...Sometimes when we read the stories of biblical characters, we underestimate how long it took for them to accomplish what they accomplished. And we underestimate how hard it was. We can read their stories in a matter of minutes, so we tend to overlook the fact that, in most instances, their passions were unpursued or unfulfilled for years on end. In my experience, the Wild Goose doesn't take shortcuts. He loves leading us down the scenic route because that is where we learn our most valuable lessons.
