Today, in the midst of a storm, dodging drips of water from the bleachers above, we set up for our 4th 7 on 7 cookout.
When Jason expressed his desire to host these games and supply lunch for the guys, I was all for it. I want to be in this with him. (It's way too much of his life to not be.) At the beginning of summer, I told him that I would organize stuff like this. (To be honest, I really wasn't so sure of my ability to make it work.) So, I headed to my computer, hoping to be inspired and creative - or creatively inspired, I guess.
What I needed more of was motivation. I hate to admit this, but I am not a people person. Seriously, I am just as happy to stand in a corner of a crowded room and just people watch. But, I have to step out of my shell. I have to be the one to start the conversation. God is growing me here, believe me!
I have to say that, as we packed up the leftover food from the cookout, what I had organized had actually worked! The letter I sent out to the parents of the players had mattered. We have had so much response. There has been plenty of food for all of the cookouts; parents have helped set-up, serve, and clean-up.
And, best of all, the players are appreciative. They have said thank-you to me and to the others that have helped at the 1st cookout, the 2nd cookout, the 3rd cookout, and the 4th cookout. Our guys have helped set-up, serve, and clean-up. And, they continue to say thank-you, over and over again.
Great idea, Coach.
