Things that make life easier...

a great A.D.

My husband has coached at schools whose A.D. hardly recognizes our family.

He's also coached at schools whose A.D. knows all of us by name.

We have one of those great A.D.'s right now.  Chris is the sensibility that speaks into Jason's life.  He's an encourager, a listener, and mentor.  Chris has, at times, told Jason to leave the building and go spend time with his family.  (Who could argue with that?)

Chris is a former coach and a dad.  He knows the long hours, the mind consumption, the disappointment of a loss.  He seems to know what to say to Jason right when he needs it.

Chris is a great guy.  I am so thankful for him.  I am thankful for his insight, for his encouragement, for his belief in Jason.

If you don't have a Chris, the season and life itself may be a little tough.  Just know that not all A.D.s are oblivious to the coach's family.  I suggest getting to know your A.D., if it's possible.  Attend events and activities.  Don't isolate yourself from the school.  And, I hope that, someday, your coach will be able to coach for an awesome A.D., too.
