but a breath

The sermon series at our church has been "Crazy Busy." Each week, our pastor reminds us just how short life is, and just how fast it goes.

Each week, we read Psalm 39:4-7

Lord, remind me how brief my time on earth will be.
Remind me that my days are numbered -
how fleeting my life is.
You have made my life no longer than the width of my hand.
My entire lifetime is just a moment to you;
at best, each of us is but a breath.

Interlude

We are merely moving shadows,
and all our busy rushing ends in nothing.
We heap up wealth, not knowing who will spend it.
And so, Lord, where do I put my hope?
My only hope is in you.

Jason has been coaching ever since Jaxon was created. He attended his first football game in the warmth and safety of my womb. The next season, he was all cuddled up sitting in his infant carrier. The next season was a little more difficult/challenging because he was mobile. He didn't want to sit in the stands and, if we stood next to the bleachers, he would sometimes run onto the sidelines. In 1A, not many fields are surrounded by a fence - most of them are just roped off. Not very effective for a 1 year old... they can fit right under that rope!

I have to admit that I didn't watch much of the game. I was just there for moral support, I guess. I kept my eyes on the little one, running around, looking so very cute. It was during those seasons that I couldn't wait until Jax was old enough to go to practice with Jason or even be old enough to actually be interested in what was going on on the football field.

We've arrived. Too soon.

He is old enough now.

He spends the games on the sidelines, as a ball boy.

I'm glad we've had this sermon series.
I won't wish this time away.
I will enjoy it
because,
before I know it,
Jax will be on the field, playing for his dad.
